Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu was the lure that brought us to Peru.  This Inca Temple was one of the few that was not damaged or destroyed by the Spanish invaders.  The setting and the Temple lived up to and exceeded our high expectations.

There are no roads to Machu Picchu.  We got there by a train that ran along the Urubamba River.  We saw some great rapids along the way.  It was interesting to see the many adults and children in the various villages that we passed.  Also many were walking along the railroad right of way.

We stayed at a nice hotel in the city below the Temple.  Both days there we took the 30 minute bus ride to the Temple.  This is a winding road to say the least.  To give you an idea of how crooked the road is, a boy of about 10 ran straight down the mountain and easily beat the bus to the bottom.  Of course he then boarded the bus and was willing to accept tips for the entertainment he provided.

Here are links to two pages of pictures.
