San Marino
We took the long way to Sienna and Florence. Wanted to see more of Italy away from the major highways and to see San Marino, of course. It added hours to the trip and we enjoyed. It was a scenic drive. I remember stopping along the way about 6 PM to eat dinner. We were told dinner is served later in this part of Italy, when you get further south you can eat at this time. We do not remember where we spent the night or when we arrived. Twelve years is hard on our memories. What we remember most about San Marino that it was the hilliest major city we were ever in. We took an elevator from one level to another. We walked around the area, ate a good meal took three pictures and headed for Sienna. We were glad we took that detour. There are three pictures below. We then headed for Sienna, a fairly long drive over hilly, curvy roads. There were dozens of bicycles on this road, particularly near San Marino. The riders were in groups dressed in Biker Clothing. Maybe this was normal for the area, or maybe a bike rally was in progress. We drove miles along this narrow, curvy, hilly road where it would be hard to drive very fast at all. Then what did we see? A sign that indicated "Curves Ahead". We had a great laugh thinking how could it be more crooked than what we had been on :) We arrived in Sienna and looked forward to the stay there. |

We
wish we had taken more pictures here. It was an interesting place to
walk around and see buildings and the people. |
